Pune: The traffic branch of Pune police has announced temporary traffic diversions and road closures on the occasion of Muharram and the processions will also be organized in different parts of the city. The diversion will take place on July 29, 2023 on the occasion of Muharram.
Hence, the traffic will be stopped/diverted as follows except for essential service vehicles (fire brigade, police vehicles, ambulances etc):
1. Main Procession (Afternoon at 3:00 PM)
Route: Departing from Srinath Talkies Dutt Mandir Belbagh Chowk – Budhwar Chowk – Jijamata Chowk – turn left around Shaniwar Wada, Gadgil Putla Chowk in front of Shaniwarwada – turn right around Dengle Bridge – Gadital Chowk – Turn left under the railway bridge RTO Chowk to Sangam Bridge – Sangam Ghat will be the place of immersion.
2. Army Procession (12:00 PM)
Route :- Gathering at 684 Tabut Panje Tabut Street, Batliwala Garden – Sarbatwala Chowk Babajan Darga – Bhopale Chowk – Gawaksab Masjid – Turn left on M.G. Road to Kohinoor Chowk – Bhagwan Mahavir Chowk – Naz Hotel Chowk – Turn Left on Buti Street to Batliwala Garden Chowk. At this point, at 2:00 pm, people will come around and stop for a religious event. Then, turn left via Nehru Memorial Hall to Rahim Petrol Pump – Old Samarth Police Station – Power House Chowk – Opposite from K.E.M. hospital to Apollo Talkies Chowk – Daruwala Bridge – Phadke Houd Chowk – turning left to Moti Chowk – Sonya Maruti Chowk – turn right to Vijay Maruti Chowk to Belbag Chowk. From Belbag Chowk, after coming to Shrinath Cinema, people join the main procession.
3. Procession from Khadki Area (6:45 PM)
Route:- The mass procession will arrive at Bopodi Chowk and through Mumbai to Pune road, to the Dapodi River shore for immersion.
4. Patil Estate Lane No 10 Procession (2:00 PM)
Route:- The mass procession near Silk Department and Milk Dairy will come to Patil Estate and return. Also, the mass procession from Patil Estate Lane No 10 will arrive at Sangam Bridge for immersion.
5. Procession leaving from Imambada (10:30 PM)
Route:- From Imambada Lashkar to Aga Khan Compound and back to Imamwada Marg, Rahim Petrol Pump, Nehru Memorial Chowk, turning left from the front side of Police Commissioner Office, General Post Office Chowk, Sadhu Vaswani Chowk, 13 Connaught Road, Aga Khan Compound, the religious programme will take place and return to Imamwada for immersion.
The traffic on the above mentioned procession routes will be closed or diverted for a short period as per the requirement and the traffic at the back will be restored as soon as the procession moves on. However, motorists should avoid the above mentioned routes and use alternative routes.
