Pune Police have prohibited the filming and circulation of Ganesh idol immersion visuals between September 4 and 15 under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). The move aims to maintain communal harmony and prevent disturbances during Ganesh Chaturthi.

The directive comes ahead of Ganesh Visarjan on Saturday, when thousands of devotees are expected to gather across the city for idol immersions. Authorities warned that anyone violating the order will face legal action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which governs criminal offences.

According to police, sharing videos or photos of immersions in rivers, lakes, or artificial tanks could hurt religious sentiments and disrupt public peace.

Ganesh Chaturthi, which began on August 27, is a ten-day festival that concludes with Anant Chaturdashi on September 6. On this day, devotees immerse idols of Lord Ganesha in water as part of traditional rituals, marking the end of the celebrations. While many families perform Visarjan on the final day, others follow customs of immersion on the third, fifth, or seventh day.
