Pune Police Bust Drug Racket In Viman Nagar, Two Held With MD Worth ₹27 Lakh
Pune, April 15, 2026: In a major anti-narcotics operation, the Airport Police arrested two individuals on Monday night for allegedly attempting to sell MD (mephedrone) drugs in the Viman Nagar area. The action was carried out based on specific intelligence inputs regarding drug peddling activity in the locality.
Acting swiftly on the tip-off, a police team led by a senior inspector laid a trap in the area and intercepted the suspects while they were reportedly waiting to deliver the contraband to prospective buyers.
During the operation, police recovered approximately 8 grams of MD drugs from the accused. Though the quantity appears small, officials estimated its illegal market value at around ₹26.71 lakh. In addition to the narcotics, authorities also seized a car and a two-wheeler allegedly used for transporting and distributing the drugs. The total value of seized assets stands at nearly ₹27 lakh.
The operation was conducted by officers from the Airport Police Station, who have been actively targeting drug-related offences in and around the area in recent weeks.
Following the arrest, a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police officials have confirmed that further investigation is underway to trace the source of the drugs and determine whether the accused are linked to a wider drug trafficking network.
Authorities are also probing possible backward and forward linkages in the supply chain to identify other individuals involved in the racket.
Meanwhile, the police have appealed to citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious activities, stating that public cooperation is crucial in curbing the spread of narcotics in the city.
