Pune: The Pune police are ready to oversee the upcoming Palkhi procession set to arrive in the city on June 12. However, their vigilance led to the prevention of a potential robbery.

As per information, Unit 5 of the crime branch received a tip that a group of robbers are planning to rob the crowd gathered for the wari procession. Prompt action from the crime branch squad resulted in the apprehension of two suspects at the State Transport Bus Stop near Ravidarshan Chowk.

The individuals in question, identified as Shrikant Raju Jadhav (21) and Dilip Balbhim Gaikwad (33), both residents of Mundhwa, were found in possession of seven stolen cell phones valued at a total of Rs 1,10,000. Despite being questioned by the police, the suspects remained silent and offered no explanation regarding the recovered mobile phones.

Further investigations revealed that the stolen devices were taken from various areas in Pune, including Hadapsar, Mundhwa, Bund Garden, and Bibwewadi. The suspects had intended to transport the stolen cell phones to Karnataka.

Moreover, it was discovered during the investigation that the robbery attempts were specifically planned to coincide with the Palkhi procession of Ashadi Wari as it is set to arrive in the city. Cases have been registered under section 379 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Hadapsar, Mundhwa, Bund Garden, and Bibwewadi police stations in relation to the stolen mobile phones.
