The Pune police have pinpointed around 165 spots in the city that are considered unsafe for women. These areas are concentrated in places covered by Shivajinagar, Parvati, Bibvewadi, Hadapsar, and Yerwada police stations. The highest number of these sensitive ‘hotspots’ are identified in the five zones across the city.

In 2015, the state government had given instructions to create a Women’s Safety Committee to come up with ways to enhance women’s safety. The committee was formed under the leadership of the Police Commissioners at that time. It was later put into action for a period. Detailed information about this was published by ‘Sivik Mirror’.

This committee in Pune includes officials from the Municipal Corporation, MSEDCL, Public Works Department, and other civic service providers focusing on women’s safety. They have appointed female marshals in the city and implemented the Damini Pathak program within the police department to enhance safety at the police station level. This committee was formed as per the government’s directives.

The committee was set up to prevent harm against women and improve safety in the city.

They are working to create a secure environment in various areas, following guidance from the police department. Addressing the police force’s staff shortage, they are reaching out to volunteer groups and the public for support. They are also taking into account the feedback received from citizens regularly.

Under your leadership, the Women’s Safety Committee is actively addressing the issue by organizing regular meetings, compiling a list of sensitive locations, and deploying female police marshals and the Damini Pathak program to ensure safety in these areas. It’s important to prioritize women’s safety near rivers, schools, temples, and other public places. Keep up the good work in making the city a safer place for everyone!
