Pune Police Implements Signal-Free Corridor on Ahmednagar Road to Ease Traffic
Pune: In a bid to tackle congestion on Ahmednagar Road, Pune police have introduced a signal-free corridor from Kharadi to Wagholi. The initiative has been implemented at key junctions, including Shastrinagar, Wadgaonsheri, Viman Nagar (Phoenix Mall), and Kharadi Dargah signals.
Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar held a meeting on Saturday with public representatives and senior officials to discuss the changes. The initiative is currently being tested as a pilot project, with support from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and other stakeholders.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Amol Zende stated, “These changes are being implemented on an experimental basis. Over the past few weeks, we have observed a significant improvement in traffic movement and a reduction in congestion.”
As part of traffic enforcement efforts, the traffic branch has collected ₹2.48 crore in fines, addressing violations such as wrong-side driving, drunk driving, triple seat riding, no parking, and signal jumping. A total of 34,311 cases were registered under the special drive.
With the success of the pilot project, authorities are expected to evaluate further measures for better traffic management on Ahmednagar Road.
