Pune, January 28, 2025: In response to the growing crime rate in Pune, the city’s police department has launched an ambitious initiative called “Cop 24” aimed at increasing police presence and ensuring public safety. The program was introduced by Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar to combat crime and establish order in the city.

The “Cop 24” initiative assigns 726 police personnel whose sole responsibility will be to patrol the city around the clock. These officers are currently undergoing specialized training, and the initiative is set to begin shortly. This move comes as part of efforts to provide citizens with a more responsive and visible police presence, as well as immediate assistance when needed.

Previously, the “Beat Marshal” program had two police officers assigned to patrol each police station area. However, these officers were often assigned additional duties, which affected their ability to effectively monitor crime. With the launch of “Cop 24,” these 726 officers will focus solely on patrolling and will operate under the jurisdiction of the crime branch.

As part of the initiative, officers will patrol the streets, respond quickly to crime scenes, and work to create a safer environment for residents. The officers involved in “Cop 24” will wear distinct uniforms, and the program will initially run on an experimental basis before being implemented as a permanent part of the city’s policing structure.

Commissioner Amitesh Kumar clarified that officers in the “Cop 24” program will be relieved from other duties at local police stations and will focus exclusively on patrolling. This dedicated approach is expected to enhance the efficiency of Pune’s police force and help reduce crime in the city. The initiative will ensure 24-hour surveillance, contributing to a safer Pune and reassuring residents about their safety.
