Pune: Police Officer Goes Missing on Daughter’s First Birthday After Posting Emotional Status
Stir erupted in Pune after police constable Nikhil Randive went missing on December 5, coinciding with his daughter’s first birthday. Randive, who was serving at Yavat Police Station, reportedly faced harassment from senior officers, including denial of leave to celebrate his daughter’s birthday. Following a distressing WhatsApp post, he disappeared, prompting his family to appeal directly to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and police teams to begin a search.
“Bala aaj tuzha pahila vaadhdivas, khup changlya prakarne karaycha hota (Bala, today is your first birthday, I wanted to celebrate it very well).
Pan mi police khatat nokarila ahe, jithe varishthanchi manmani chalte (But I am working in the police department, where seniors act arbitrarily)…
Didi tula ya pahilya ani shevatchya vaadhdivasachi shubhechha (Didi wishing you your first and last birthday).”
Shortly after posting this, he also shared a heartfelt tribute to himself, then switched off his phone. Attempts by family and colleagues to contact him have been unsuccessful.
Nikhil Randive’s wife, Akshada Randive, submitted a complaint to Chief Minister Fadnavis requesting senior officers to investigate the matter. Reports indicate that Nikhil was under severe mental stress due to ongoing harassment from Senior Police Inspector Narayan Deshmukh, including repeated denial of leave and other work pressures. Messages prior to his disappearance suggested he was taking extreme steps as he could no longer bear the mental harassment.
