Pune, May 6, 2025: In a major breakthrough, Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station in Pune has arrested a youth in connection with a mobile snatching incident and recovered six stolen mobile phones worth ₹90,000 along with a two-wheeler valued at ₹1,00,000, bringing the total recovery to ₹1.9 lakh.

The incident occurred on the night of May 1, 2025, around 8 PM near Golden Scrap Center, close to the bungalow of Mahesh Kadam at Gujarwadi Phata. The complainant was speaking on the phone by the roadside when two unidentified men on a two-wheeler approached. One of them pretended to ask for directions, while the pillion rider forcefully snatched the complainant’s phone and fled. Following the complaint, an FIR (No. 230/2025) was registered at Bharti Vidyapeeth Police Station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Considering the seriousness of the offense, Senior Police Inspector Sawalaram P. Salgaonkar instructed Police Sub-Inspector Nilesh Mokashi and his team to track down the suspects. Based on a tip-off, the police traced the crime to two individuals—Rohit Suresh Kamble and Salman Shaikh—residents of Gujarwadi.

Rohit Suresh Kamble, aged 18 years and 6 months, was apprehended in Bharatnagar. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime. Police seized a Jupiter scooter worth ₹1,00,000 and six mobile phones worth ₹90,000 from his possession. Further investigation into the stolen items and potential accomplices is ongoing.

This operation was conducted under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (West Region) Mr. Pravin Kumar Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) Mrs. Smarana Patil, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Swargate Division) Mr. Rahul Aware. The investigation team included Senior Police Inspector Sawalaram P. Salgaonkar, Inspector (Crime) Rahulkumar Khilare, PSI Nilesh Mokashi, and constables Mitesh Chormale, Abhinay Chaudhary, Sagar Borge, Kiran Sable, among others.

The Pune Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report such incidents immediately to aid in swift action.
