Pune: Several incidents were reported of stolen mobile phones during the Ganapati immersion procession. As per the police, thieves pilfered mobile phones from various locations, including Laxmi Road, Tilak Road, Kelkar Road, and Kumthekar Road, on Thursday night.

Every year, incidents of theft are reported, including cash being stolen and chains being snatched during Ganeshotsav. On Thursday midnight, thieves absconded with mobile phones belonging to individuals who had gathered to witness the immersion procession at Laxmi Road, Tilak Road, Kumthekar Road, and Kelkar Road.

This year, over 1,000 complaints of mobile phone thefts have been officially registered on the Pune police’s online portal, ‘Lost and Found’. The majority of these complaints were filed at Vishrambagh, Khadak, and Faraskhana police stations.

While talking to Pune Pulse, Vitthal Dabade, Police Inspector, Vishrambaug Police Station, added, ”We have told people to register their names on the Lost and Found online portal and fill in the concerned details like date, address, article description, email id, etc. Later, their phones will be traced and given back to them. An FIR will be issued against the accused involved in theft during the immersion procession.”
