Pune, May 14, 2026: Several parts of Pune, including Hadapsar, Mundhwa, Camp, Wanwadi, Nanded City, Parvati, Kothrud, Baner and Aundh, experienced power disruptions on Wednesday afternoon after a technical fault developed in Mahapareshan’s 220 KV extra high-voltage transmission line between Theur and Magarpatta.

According to officials, the fault occurred around 1:20 pm, shortly after pre-monsoon maintenance work had been completed earlier in the day. The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) had carried out a planned shutdown between 7 am and 12 noon in coordination with Mahapareshan, after which supply was briefly restored.

However, the sudden transmission line fault soon after restoration led to instability in the power grid, resulting in widespread outages across multiple localities in the city and surrounding areas.

Officials said that due to high electricity demand amid rising temperatures, several transmission corridors were already operating under heavy load. This restricted the ability to fully reroute supply through alternative channels, leading to load management of nearly 50 MW in affected zones. Key substations, including NCL, Kothrud, and Parvati, also had to regulate supply to maintain system stability.

While engineers managed to restore electricity in some pockets through alternate routing, several areas continued to face intermittent outages through the afternoon.

Power officials stated that repair work on the Theur–Magarpatta line is expected to be completed by around 8 pm, after which normal electricity supply will be fully restored across affected areas.

Authorities have appealed to citizens to remain patient and cooperate as restoration teams work on priority to stabilize the grid and restore uninterrupted supply.
