Pune: Power Outage In Wakad, Pimple Saudagar As Bird Drops Internet Cable On High-Voltage Line
Pune, October 30, 2024: Areas including Pimple Saudagar, Sangvi, and Wakad experienced a power outage lasting from 20 minutes to over an hour on Wednesday morning due to a short circuit caused by an unexpected incident. A large bird dropped a fragment of internet cable onto a 132 kV high-voltage transmission line supplying the Rahatani substation, resulting in a short circuit and power disruption.Â
After the incident at 7:56 AM, Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company engineers found two of the three power lines near Woods Society in Wakad damaged due to short-circuiting, with burnt internet cable fragments on the ground below. It is suspected that a bird may have tried to perch on the line with the cable fragment, causing simultaneous contact with two lines and triggering the outage.
To restore power, supply was rerouted from the Ganeshkhind 220 kV substation. However, due to increased demand, load management on alternative lines proved challenging, requiring temporary load shedding on five 22 kV power lines. Power was fully restored after technical adjustments were implemented and alternative connections established. Meanwhile, repairs on the damaged line were expedited and were expected to be completed by 5 PM.
