Approximately 65,000 consumers were left without electricity across 45 villages in Mulshi taluka on Tuesday (16) due to a major power outage caused by a broken tower line cable. The disruption occurred at 9:10 am, affecting the Pirangut 220 KV and Hinjewadi 220 KV substations, as well as 20 lines of Mahavitaran.

The incident originated from a break in one of the power lines of the Kandalgaon 220 KV tower line at Ambegaon (Mulshi). As a result, the electricity supply to the Pirangut and Hinjewadi ultra-high-pressure substations was abruptly halted, impacting a wide area including parts of Bhugaon, Bhukum, Pirangut, Burawade, Kolvan Khore, Mutha Khore, Paud, Male, Man, Marunji, Kasarsai, Nere, Dattawadi, and Hinjawadi.

With a transmission shortfall of 70 MW exacerbated by the breakage, restoring normalcy was challenging, especially with the rising demand for electricity due to the hot summer conditions. Load management to compensate for the deficit was deemed unfeasible by MSEDCL. Consequently, repair efforts were expedited, aiming to complete the necessary work by 4 pm. Restoration of power to the affected villages in Mulshi taluka is expected to commence in phases and be fully reinstated by 5 pm.
