Pune: Amid ongoing opposition to the proposed airport at Purandar, the state government has offered a compensation package to the farmers. However, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar revealed that many landowners who had previously sold their land are now ready to hand it over. Officials are working on acquiring these lands.

Ajit Pawar made it clear that despite opposition from affected farmers, the project will go ahead. The land acquisition process involves seven villages. Earlier, drone surveys were halted due to protests, including stone-pelting and police action. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule had later engaged in dialogue with the farmers, urging them to understand the project’s significance and submit their compensation expectations. He also suspended the survey temporarily.

Almost a month has passed since the incident, and uncertainty remains around the project. However, Ajit Pawar stated on Saturday, after a review meeting on the kharif season, that discussions with farmers are ongoing.

According to officials, opposition comes from those whose homes and lands are being acquired, but around 60% of the land has already been purchased by other parties, who are now ready to hand it over. The administration has initiated the acquisition of this land.

This indicates that the government plans to proceed with the project using the available 60% of land from willing sellers, bypassing the opposition from other farmers. How the remaining opposition plays out remains to be seen.
