Maharashtra Weather Update: Heavy Rainfall Predicted; Red Alert Issued for Pune and Satara
Heavy Rain Forecast for Pune
Pune is bracing for heavy rainfall over the next 48 hours, which could lead to substantial water discharge in the Mutha and Pavana river basins. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued a warning urging residents living near these rivers to stay alert.
What PMC Says
The Khadakwasla dam near Pune is currently at 80% capacity, while the Panshet dam is at 94%, and the Temghar dam is at 78%. Additionally, the Pavana dam, which is linked to Pimpri-Chinchwad, is at 84% capacity. Given these conditions, the PMC advises citizens in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad to remain vigilant and prepared for the upcoming rainy period.
Anticipated Rainfall and Water Discharge
Forecasts predict intense rainfall on Sunday night and Monday morning, which could result in significant water discharge into the Mutha and Pavana river basins. The PMC has indicated that water discharge from the Khadakwasla and Pavana dams is already underway and may be adjusted based on the rainfall and inflow levels.
Safety Precautions
Residents living near the Mutha River and those in the Pimpri-Chinchwad area are advised to avoid entering restricted zones (Blue Line Areas) and to move any materials or livestock from the riverbeds promptly. Authorities also caution against venturing into low-lying areas and riverbeds.
Stay safe and adhere to all safety advisories during this period of heavy rainfall.
