Pune Rain Dampens Market Yard, Farmers Face Heavy Losses

The ongoing rains across Pune district have significantly reduced the arrival of farm produce at the Market Yard in Gultekdi, leading to stable prices but heavy losses for farmers.

Due to the ongoing rains across the state, including Pune district, the arrival of farm produce at Market Yard in Gultekdi on Thursday decreased by 30-35 percent. Traders at the market yard reported that prices of fruit and leafy vegetables remained stable as buyers were fewer due to the rain.

Heavy rains on Wednesday night have also impacted the arrival of farm produce. Compared to the previous week, there was a 30 percent decrease in agricultural commodities. The rainfall on Thursday is expected to affect the arrival of agricultural produce on Friday as well.

Many vegetable sellers in the market yard are left with unsold produce, resulting in significant losses for farmers. The decrease in buyer turnout and the reduced supply of farm produce have compounded the challenges faced by the agricultural community.
