The city of Pune has been battered by unseasonal heavy rainfall over the past three days, throwing normal life into disarray and causing serious damage across various localities. With the monsoon yet to officially arrive, the intensity of the pre-monsoon showers on Tuesday (May 20) took residents by surprise bringing with it strong winds, waterlogged roads, and sadly, one heartbreaking tragedy.

In a devastating incident that has shaken the Warje area, a 10-year-old boy, Mayank alias Dadu Pradeep Adagale, lost his life after coming in contact with a live electric pole outside his home. The incident occurred around 5:45 PM in Ramnagar, Warje, when Mayank was playing outside in the rain with his friends. Unaware of the danger, the child leaned against an iron pole which, due to electrical leakage, was live with current. He received a powerful electric shock and collapsed instantly.

Shocked by the sudden turn of events, his family and neighbors rushed him to a nearby hospital. Tragically, doctors declared him dead upon arrival. The loss of the young boy has left the entire locality in mourning, with the Adagale family overwhelmed by grief.

The rain, which began mildly in the afternoon, quickly escalated by evening, turning many city roads into flowing streams. Traffic came to a standstill in several parts of the city as commuters battled waterlogged streets. According to city officials, at least 15 cases of tree falls were reported across Pune on Tuesday, leading to further chaos and damage to public and private property.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning of continued heavy rain in the region over the next 48 hours. Authorities are urging citizens to remain indoors during storms and to avoid contact with metal structures, electric poles, or flooded areas to prevent such tragic accidents.

This unexpected and tragic event has sparked conversations around infrastructure safety, especially in residential neighborhoods, as Pune braces for more rain in the coming days.
