Pune: Reckless Truck Driver Carrying Material For Diesel Loco Shed Drags Car For 500 Metres In Ghorpadi
Pune, June 9: A horrifying incident unfolded in Bhimnagar, Ghorpadi yesterday when a truck carrying material for Central Railway’s Diesel Loco Shed was involved in reckless driving, allegedly by an intoxicated driver. The truck, operated by Nikhil Road Lines from Nagpur, ran over a private car and dragged it for nearly 500 metres through the narrow, densely populated streets of the locality.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic as the heavy vehicle barreled through the area, endangering lives and causing damage. “It was terrifying. The driver showed no signs of slowing down.”
The vehicle was en route to deliver supplies to the Diesel Loco Shed when the incident occurred. According to initial reports, the driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol and exhibited complete disregard for public safety.
The matter has been reported to the Ghorpadi Police Station. Residents and complainant have demanded strict and immediate action against the driver and the logistics firm responsible.
“This is sheer negligence. Government contractors must be held accountable. Vehicles carrying public sector materials must adhere to strict safety protocols. Lives cannot be put at risk due to carelessness,” said a concerned citizen.
The complainant said that a complaint is filed in Mundhwa Police station. The vehicle carried on government duty sticker. The contractor who spoke to me was very casual. Such reckless driver can cause severe damage. Strict action must be taken against such drivers. I am awaiting for stern action against such reckless driver.
Local authorities are now under pressure to launch a thorough investigation and implement stricter checks on drivers employed by logistics contractors, especially those handling government-related transportation.
No injuries or casualties have been reported as of now, but the shocking nature of the incident has sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns over traffic safety in crowded urban areas.
