Pune: Repeated Accidents On Ganga Dham–Shatrunjay Temple Road Raise Serious Safety Concerns
Pune, January 5, 2026: Serious questions are being raised over road safety and civic negligence following yet another accident on the Ganga Dham–Shatrunjay temple road, a stretch already notorious for frequent mishaps. On Monday at around 11.00 am, a rickshaw reportedly lost balance near the Aai Mata Mandir slope and overturned, falling onto two to three motorcycles.
One of the motorcycles was being ridden by a woman. All the bike riders sustained injuries in the incident, while the rickshaw driver was also injured after the vehicle overturned.
Fortunately, no fatalities were reported, but the accident once again highlighted the unsafe condition of the road.
Local residents say that despite repeated complaints and multiple accidents, no effective corrective measures have been taken. The slope near Aai Mata Mandir, coupled with poor road design and lack of safety provisions, has turned the stretch into an accident-prone zone, posing a constant risk to commuters.
Residents have questioned when the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will take cognisance of the situation and implement long-pending safety measures. They have demanded immediate steps such as road redesign, proper barricading, speed-control measures and warning signage to prevent further mishaps.
Civic apathy towards this dangerous stretch, residents warn, could lead to a major tragedy if urgent action is not taken. They have urged PMC authorities to intervene without delay and ensure commuter safety before the situation worsens further.
