Pune, June 9, 2025 — The Pune district on Monday recorded 29 new Covid-19 cases, according to the latest data from the Maharashtra State Health Department. Of the newly reported cases, 26 were from Pune city, two from Pimpri Chinchwad, and one from rural Pune, highlighting a continued spread of the virus across urban and semi-urban regions.

Across Maharashtra, a total of 65 new Covid-19 cases were reported on the same day.

Since January 2025, the state has conducted 17,292 Covid-19 tests, out of which 1,504 individuals have tested positive. A total of 873 patients have recovered from the infection so far, officials confirmed.

State health officials noted that the current wave of infections is mostly presenting with mild symptoms. However, since the beginning of the year, 18 patients who tested positive for Covid-19 have died, most of whom had pre-existing health conditions or comorbidities.

In light of the current situation, the health department has issued directives to divisional, district, and municipal health authorities to enhance surveillance of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARI) cases. The state has mandated that:

  • 5% of ILI patients and
  • 100% of SARI patients

must be tested for Covid-19. Additionally, all positive samples should be sent for Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) to monitor the emergence of new variants.

Authorities are urging citizens to remain cautious, especially those with underlying health conditions, and to follow Covid-appropriate behavior including mask usage in crowded places and maintaining hygiene.
