On Sunday morning, three separate thefts were reported in Pashan, Kothrud, and near Dashabhuja Ganpati Mandir. All incidents involved chain snatchers riding two-wheelers who approached victims under various pretexts before fleeing with gold ornaments worth thousands.
Key Incidents:
- Pashan, Panchavati Society: Around 6:15 AM, a 70-year-old man was stopped by two men on a bike who asked for directions. One of them snatched his gold chain worth approximately ₹80,000 and fled the scene. A case has been filed at the Chatushrungi Police Station.
- Kothrud, near Lohia Jain IT Park: A 69-year-old woman was on her morning walk when two men snatched her gold mangalsutra and escaped. A complaint has been lodged at the Kothrud Police Station, and Assistant Inspector Balaji Sanap is investigating.
- Dashabhuja Ganpati Mandir (Alankar Police Jurisdiction): A 43-year-old woman, out with her son, had her two-tola gold chain snatched by a man who approached from behind. The thief fled on a bike with his accomplice through the busy area.
Police Action and Public Advisory:
The Pune Police have registered FIRs at Kothrud, Alankar, and Chatushrungi police stations and are reviewing CCTV footage to trace the culprits. Meanwhile, authorities are urging citizens—especially senior citizens and women—to stay alert and follow safety measures.
