Pune: The residents of Kondhwa Budruk are left with no choice but to worry over the Pune Municipal Corporations (PMC) parking their garbage vehicles in the nearby societies like Sobha Carnation, R Euphoria, HM Royal etc. located in sector number 18/19 of the Kondhwa Budruk.

The parking & entering of huge vehicles in the narrow lane poses a significant threat to various students of the nearby Mansukhbhai Kothari School & other people, along with giving rise to various diseases.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Group Captain (Retd) Ashok Bhagwat, a resident of Sobha Carnation, Kondhwa said, “The major issue is about the hygiene part as these garbage vehicles are constantly filled with trash and waste. Due to this, we have plenty of flies & insects entering our houses. Hence, we can’t keep windows open. Another issue is about heavy traffic as this is a very narrow lane & due to heavy vehicles constantly travelling from here, the road is in a very bad shape. Even after paying so much property tax, the PMC doesn’t bother to even give a proper hearing to our issues.”

He further said,”Additionally, the lives of students of the nearby schools are also at risk as heavy vehicles enter on the narrow roads. Somebody has to wake up to solve these issues.”

Colonel (Retd) S K Joshi, a resident of Sobha Carnation, Kondhwa, said “These garbage vehicles are filled with garbage and waste all the time. This leads to a lot of flies and insects coming into our homes. There is a school nearby and the garbage vehicles coming into this narrow lane pose a huge danger to the students.”

Speaking further Joshi said, “Another concern is the heavy traffic. This is a very small lane and because of the heavy vehicles coming from this place, the roads are in a state of chaos. PMC does not even consider these issues. We have given our lives in serving the nation & this is what we get in return.”

Various other residents of Sobha Carnation, HM Royal, R Euphoria & more, having the same complaints, had gathered on August 28 near Mansukhbhai Kothari school. Along with these, many more issues like stray dogs, dim streetlights, drinking openly & littering in the nearby vicinity, heavy traffic in the narrow lane etc were addressed.

Alamgir Jamadar, Head of Kondhwa Budruk Association said, “The amenity space in Sector 18/19 has not been developed for a long time now. Instead of any development opportunities, the amenity space has become a headache with garbage vehicles parked in the space. Waste just keeps piling up in these vehicles. No one is around to clean it up. During the rainy season, the accumulation of water causes serious diseases every day.”

Mahesh Patil, Deputy Commissioner, PMC Vigilance Department, said “We have already communicated this with the Solid Waste Management department & are waiting for an alternate solution for parking of Garbage vehicles.”

Pune Pulse tried to contact the relevant PMC Solid Waste Management officials but couldn’t connect till the report was filed.
