Tathawade, June 30, 2025: Thousands of residents from Akshar Elementa Society in Tathawade near Wakad staged a protest on Sunday against the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) revised development plan (DP), which proposes an 18-meter-wide road cutting through the society’s internal premises.

The society, home to over 5,000 residents and comprising 900 flats, was established in 2016. Residents expressed grave concerns about safety, environmental degradation, and loss of vital amenities such as parks, a temple, and parking areas.

Praveen Farad, chairman of the society, alleged, “Our internal road is being shown as a public road in the new plan. This move raises major security concerns. We believe this benefits a developer seeking TDR rights. An alternative road already exists, making this proposal unjustified.”

Senior citizens echoed fears over increased traffic and loss of peaceful living. “We’ve lived here for years with the understanding that the internal roads are private. Turning them into public roads will endanger our safety and uproot community spaces,” added Farad.

Residents said they have initiated legal communication with PCMC and await a formal dialogue.

Akshar Elementa is not alone in its opposition. Similar protests have erupted across Rahatani, Thergaon, Chinchwade Nagar, and other areas where DP roads threaten residential zones.

According to PCMC officials, objections to the draft plan can be submitted within 60 days of its release, and a final decision will be made after public hearings.
