Pune Residents Perform Aarti Of Hazardous Divider On Vishrantwadi–Alandi Road To Protest Frequent Accidents
Pune, December 11, 2025: Amid a rising number of accidents on the Vishrantwadi–Alandi Road in Pune, local activists staged a symbolic protest on Wednesday by performing an aarti of the accident-prone divider along the partially completed BRT corridor. The demonstration aimed to highlight what residents describe as dangerous road conditions caused by poor planning and lack of timely action by civic authorities.
Social worker Sachin Bhosale, who led the protest, criticised the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) for leaving the BRT stretch incomplete, resulting in ongoing mishaps. Despite continuous complaints over the past two years, locals say the authorities have failed to make the stretch safer.
Residents report that the divider becomes almost invisible at night due to inadequate lighting and reflective markers. As a result, between 20 to 25 major accidents have already occurred, with several vehicles severely damaged after colliding with the divider. They also blame the ongoing flyover construction in the area for worsening congestion and safety issues.
During the protest, Bhosale demanded immediate removal of the partial BRT setup and installation of proper illumination and reflectors. He warned that if corrective measures are not taken soon, residents will escalate their agitation by organising a large-scale road blockade.
A local resident expressed frustration, noting that several lives have been lost due to recurring accidents. “Who is accountable for these deaths? The administration’s negligence is costing lives, and that’s why we are protesting,” he said.
Another resident pointed out that despite repeatedly writing to the authorities, no action has been taken for two years. He insisted that officials responsible for the oversight should face strict consequences.
Echoing similar concerns, another resident said, “The incomplete BRT planning is endangering citizens. If immediate improvements are not made, we will intensify our movement with a major road blockade.”
Residents continue to urge authorities to make the corridor safe before more accidents occur.
