Pune: Rohit Pawar Breaks Silence On Prashant Jagtap’s Exit, Announces Alliance With Ajit Pawar For PMC And PCMC Polls
Pune, December 29, 2025: The ongoing deadlock between the Nationalist Congress Party led by Sharad Pawar and the faction led by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has finally been resolved. It has been announced that both NCP factions will jointly contest the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation elections.
NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) MLA Rohit Pawar said that both parties will fight the elections together in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. He added that the seat-sharing picture will become clear after the distribution of AB forms. Following discussions with party workers, it has been decided that the Sharad Pawar-led NCP will contest on the ‘Tutari’ (trumpet) symbol, while Ajit Pawar’s NCP will contest on its own party symbol.
Rohit Pawar stated that Amol Kolhe will oversee Pimpri-Chinchwad, while he himself will be responsible for Pune. AB forms will be distributed on both the trumpet and clock symbols, after which the exact seat allocation for each party will be known. He also alleged that those who were in power in the Pune Municipal Corporation failed to deliver development work.
Commenting on Prashant Jagtap’s entry into the Congress, Rohit Pawar said that Jagtap was a good worker, but indicated that the reasons for his exit from the party were different.
Responding to criticism over Sharad Pawar’s proximity to industrialist Gautam Adani, Rohit Pawar clarified that leaders meet industrialists like Tata and Adani for CSR support aimed at public welfare, and such interactions are not politically motivated.
Regarding seat-sharing, discussions are ongoing, with talks suggesting 35 to 40 seats for the Sharad Pawar-led NCP and the remaining seats for the Ajit Pawar faction. A final decision is expected after a meeting, following which the official announcement and candidate list will be released.
Meanwhile, at the city level, Congress and Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders held a meeting at Congress Bhavan and reached an agreement on seat-sharing. As per the understanding, Congress will contest 80 seats, allies will get 15 seats, and Shiv Sena (UBT) will contest 65 seats. Some of Shiv Sena (UBT)’s seats may be allotted to the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS).
