Pune RTO Announces Special Initiative To Get Preferred Vehicle Registration Numbers Ahead Of Gudi Padwa
Pune, March 12, 2026: Ahead of the festival of Gudi Padwa, the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has announced a special initiative allowing vehicle buyers to obtain attractive and preferred vehicle registration numbers. The scheme has been introduced as vehicle purchases typically increase during the festive season.
To facilitate this, the Pune RTO will launch a new series of registration numbers and has announced an advance application and auction process for those interested in reserving specific numbers.
For private four-wheeler vehicles, applicants who wish to reserve a preferred registration number must submit their applications on March 13, 2026, between 10:30 am and 2:30 pm at the RTO office. Applicants must submit the prescribed application form along with a demand draft (DD), proof of address, identity proof, and attested copies of their PAN card. If multiple applications are received for the same number, an auction will be conducted on March 16, 2026, at 4:00 pm.
For two-wheeler vehicles, applications for attractive numbers will be accepted on March 16, 2026, and the auction will take place on March 17, 2026, at 4:00 pm at the Sahakar Hall.
The demand draft submitted for the auction must be issued in the name of “R.T.O., Pune” from a nationalized or scheduled bank and should not be older than two months. Applicants must also attach an attested copy of their PAN card. Only one sealed DD will be accepted for each registration number.
According to Rule 54A of the Maharashtra Motor Vehicle Rules, 1981, a preferred registration number will remain valid for 180 days. After the auction process, the remaining numbers will be made available online through the official portal https://fancy.parivahan.gov.in, where applicants can reserve numbers by registering with an Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
The Pune RTO has clarified that only vehicle owners with an address within the Pune RTO jurisdiction will be eligible to apply for the scheme.
