Wai, March 12, 2026: A shutdown called in Wai taluka on Wednesday received an overwhelming response from residents protesting against the poor quality and delay in road construction connecting the town to nearby areas.

The bandh was organised to highlight the deteriorating condition of major roads linking Wai city with surrounding regions. Citizens expressed anger over the substandard work and the prolonged delay in completing the projects, which has caused daily inconvenience to commuters.

As part of the shutdown, hotel owners in the city decided to keep their establishments closed between 10:00 am and 1:00 pm in support of the protest. The hospitality sector reportedly responded strongly, with most hotels in Wai remaining completely shut during the period.

Road construction work on key routes connecting Wai, Surur, and Mandhardevi has been pending for a long time. Due to unfinished work, damaged roads, dust pollution, and traffic disruptions, residents, farmers, traders, and tourism-related businesses have been facing significant difficulties.

Locals said the poor condition of the roads has made daily travel difficult and has affected economic activities in the region. Through the shutdown, residents demanded that the authorities immediately complete the ongoing road projects and improve the quality of work.

Citizens also urged the administration to treat the issue seriously and take swift action to resolve the long-pending problem.
