Featuring classical vocal performances by Pt. Uday Bhawalkar and Vidushi Arti Ankalikar-Tikekar
Pune, June 6, 2025: To pay tribute to the memory of Pt. Shrikant Deshpande, a renowned disciple of Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi and grandson of Sawai Gandharva, a musical program “Sangeet Sandhya” will be organized by Sheila Deshpande and Friends of Pt. Shrikant Deshpande on Thursday, June 12, at 5 pm at Yashwantrao Chavan Natyagruha in Kothrud. The program is free and open to all on a first-come-first-served basis. Please note that few seats will be reserved for the friends of Pt Shrikant Deshpande.
Sheila Deshpande said, “Pt. Shrikant Deshpande passed away in 2011. He was a vocalist of the renowned Kirana Gharana and trained under the tutelage of Bharat Ratna Pt. Bhimsen Joshi and Pt. Firoz Dastur both stalwarts of Kirana Gharana and disciples of Late Sawai Gandharva. Shrikant’s participation in the Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav was remarkable as an organizer, too. This will be the thirteenth year of paying a humble tribute to Shrikant on his birth anniversary on the 12th of June by organizing a musical evening.
The “Sangeet Sandhya” program will feature performances by renowned Dhrupad singer Pt. Uday Bhawalkar and classical vocalist Vidushi Arti Ankalikar-Tikekar, accompanied by Bharat Kamat (Tabla), Suyog Kundalkar (Harmonium), and Pratap Awad (Pakhawaj). Ravindra Khare, will be the program’s anchor.
