Pune, January 19, 2026: An incident from the Wagholi area on the outskirts of Pune has sparked concern over safety and discipline in residential societies. A 66-year-old senior citizen was allegedly abused and assaulted after he objected to inappropriate behaviour by a young man inside a society premises.
According to information received, the senior citizen, a resident of a well-known housing society in Wagholi, was taking a walk within the society campus on Friday evening (January 16) around 6:30 pm. At that time, he noticed a young man and his female companion engaging in indecent acts in the society premises. As the behaviour was taking place in a public residential area, the senior citizen tried to counsel them and asked them to behave appropriately.
However, the young man reportedly lost his temper after being confronted. Instead of accepting the objection, he allegedly began arguing with the senior citizen, used abusive language, and later pushed and assaulted him in a fit of anger.
Following the incident, the injured senior citizen approached the Wagholi Police Station and lodged a complaint. The police have registered a case against the accused youth and have launched a search to trace him. Further investigation is underway, and CCTV footage from the society is being examined to identify and apprehend the accused.
The incident has triggered discussions in the Wagholi area regarding residential safety, civic behaviour, and the need for stricter monitoring within housing societies.
