PUNE: The Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) has announced that construction bids for the 53.4 km Pune-Shirur six-lane elevated corridor will be opened on April 1, 2025. The project, estimated at ₹7,515 crore, aims to enhance connectivity between Pune and Shirur, with construction expected to commence by June or July 2025.

Project Details and Timeline

The project is designed under the Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer (DBFOT) model, featuring a 30-year concession period. Minimal land acquisition is required, as the elevated corridor will primarily utilize the existing Pune-Shirur highway. The state cabinet approved the project in 2024, with completion anticipated within four years.

Phase-Wise Development Plan

The Pune-Shirur elevated corridor is part of the larger Pune-Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar NH 753F highway, developed in two phases:

  • Phase 1:
    • Length: 53.4 km
    • Existing Road: Four lanes
    • Proposed Upgrade: Six-lane elevated corridor
    • Cost: ₹7,515 crore
    • Status: Tendering in progress

Connectivity and Economic Impact

Once completed, the highway will seamlessly integrate with the Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg at Shendra MIDC, significantly boosting regional connectivity. Areas such as Yerawada, Kharadi, Wagholi, Lonikand, Shikrapur, and Shirur are expected to experience reduced traffic congestion, improved road infrastructure, and economic growth.

Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar highlighted the project in the Maharashtra Budget 2025-26, emphasizing its role in enhancing infrastructure and easing travel between Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
