Pune: Shivajinagar-Hinjawadi Metro Line Set To Launch In March 2025, Promising Relief From Traffic Woes
Pune, November 27, 2024: After years of anticipation, the Shivajinagar-Hinjawadi metro line is on track to begin operations by March 2025. This 23.2-kilometer line, costing Rs 8,313 crore, is set to significantly ease the daily traffic struggles of commuters, particularly IT professionals, traveling between Shivajinagar, Baner, Balewadi, and Hinjawadi.
With over 74% of the work already completed, the project is progressing smoothly and is expected to revolutionize Pune’s transportation system. The metro line will connect key residential, business, and IT hubs, addressing the notorious traffic congestion faced by commuters, especially those working in the bustling Hinjawadi IT Park.
The project, which has been under construction since Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid its foundation in December 2018, will reduce the reliance on personal vehicles, shifting the city towards public transport. As Pune’s population grows and areas like Baner, Balewadi, and Hinjawadi see rapid urban development, the metro will play a pivotal role in providing a fast, efficient, and eco-friendly mode of transportation.
Rinaj Pathan, Chief Engineer at PMRDA, highlighted that the financial objectives of the project have already been met up to 63%, with the remaining work on track for completion by the March 2025 deadline. The metro will be equipped with world-class amenities, ensuring a safe, comfortable, and efficient commute for passengers.
For thousands of daily commuters, particularly IT professionals in the rapidly developing regions, this metro line offers much-needed relief from hours spent stuck in traffic, offering hope for a smoother and faster daily journey.
