Pune: Shooting Coach Sentenced To 3 Years Rigorous Imprisonment for Obscene Acts with Minor at Balewadi Training Centre
Pune: A special court has sentenced a 28-year-old shooting coach to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹7,000 for committing obscene acts with a 12-year-old girl undergoing training at a shooting centre in Balewadi. The judgment was delivered by Special Judge R. N. Hivse.
The convicted individual has been identified as Rudragauda Chanveergauda Patil, aged 28, a resident of Sai Chowk, Pashan, originally from Belgaum, Karnataka. The court, after considering the prosecution’s arguments, witness testimonies, and evidence, pronounced the sentence. The court also ordered that in case of non-payment of the fine, the accused will have to undergo an additional two months of imprisonment.
The incident took place during a summer vacation shooting course the victim had enrolled in. Her mother had sent her to the Balewadi shooting training centre between May 14 and May 20, 2019. During this period, the accused, who worked as a sports manager at the centre, allegedly used the pretext of offering tea, snacks, and soft drinks to lure the girl and committed obscene acts. The girl resisted his actions and later informed her family about the incident.
Her mother reported the matter to senior officials at the training centre, who initially assured action but failed to follow through. Subsequently, she filed a complaint via email to the institution. The victim’s grandmother later lodged a formal complaint at the Hinjewadi Police Station.
A case was registered against Patil under relevant sections. Public Prosecutor Premkumar Agarwal, along with Adv. Pushkar Patil and Adv. Mayur Dhatavkar representing the complainant, argued the case. The prosecution presented six witnesses, including the victim and officials from the training centre, whose testimonies were crucial in the case.
The defence argued that the complaint was false and made out of vengeance because the accused had scolded the girl for not handling the gun properly. However, the court upheld the prosecution’s case and convicted the accused.
