Pune, July 31: Various sports competitions have been organized in memory of late MLA Vinayak Nimhan by Someshwar Foundation and Krida Jagruti. The state-level carrom tournament will witness participation from 212 top-ranked players across the state. The tournament will take place at Sunny Sports Kingdom, Sunny’s World, Pashan Sus Road, starting August 2, 2024.

Speaking to the reporters about the competition, Sunny’s World Chairman and Someshwar Foundation President, Sunny Nimhan, and Krida Jagruti President Pratap Jadhav, mentioned that for the second consecutive year, these competitions are being held at Sunny Sports Kingdom, Sunny’s World, in memory of late MLA Vinayak Nimhan. The aim of the tournament is to provide an opportunity for talented players from the state to showcase their skills.

Maharashtra Carrom Association Chairman Bharat Deslada and Honorary Secretary Arun Kedar shared that the tournament is being organized with the approval of the Maharashtra Carrom Association and the Carrom Association of Pune, and with the initiative of Sunny Nimhan as the main patron. Last year, the state championship held at the same venue received an overwhelming response from players. This year, 180 players in the men’s singles category and 32 players in the women’s singles category are participating. The matches will be broadcast live on the Maharashtra Carrom Association’s YouTube channel.

In the men’s singles category, Mumbai’s Mohammad Ghufran, with 58 ranking points, has been given the top seed, while Mumbai’s Kajal Kumari, with 75 ranking points, is the top seed in the women’s singles category. The men’s singles matches will commence at 9 AM on August 2, 2024.

Umesh Wagh of Someshwar Foundation provided additional details, stating that along with the state-level carrom tournament, a district-level badminton tournament is also being organized for the second consecutive year. This tournament will be held from August 9 to 11, 2024, on international standard badminton courts at Sunny Sports Kingdom, Sunny’s World.

With the cooperation and approval of PDMBA President Aniruddha Deshpande and Honorary Secretary Ranjit Natu, around 400 players from the district will participate in this tournament. Entries for the badminton competition will be accepted until August 6. Winners will be honored with cash prizes, certificates, and trophies according to PDMBA rules.
