Pune Station’s ‘Riksha Mitra’ Prepaid Booth Resumes Service Amid Growing Demand
Pune, November 14, 2024: Today, the ‘Riksha Mitra’ prepaid rickshaw booth at Pune Station reopened to serve the public once again. This booth has proven essential, especially in combating the issues caused by unauthorized rickshaw drivers overcharging passengers in the station area. The booth initially launched 100 days ago, providing affordable, regulated fares for over 28,000 passengers and saving them approximately INR 4.4 million collectively.
The information was announced by Dr Keshav Kshirsagar founder of Baghtoy Rickshawala Sanghatana. However, due to the expiration of its contract with the Passenger Service Association, overseen by Deputy Commissioner of Police Traffic, the booth was temporarily closed as of October 31.
The booth, backed by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Dada Patil, and Union Minister of Civil Aviation Murli Mohol, had gained considerable recognition for its fair pricing and successful operations. Railway officials have also extended significant support for the initiative.
Many Pune citizens have expressed satisfaction with this service, which ensures safe and reasonably priced rickshaw rides at Pune Station.
