Pune: Sus Residents’ Protest Pays Off As PMC Begins Repair Work On Yashwin Society Road
Pune, November 27, 2025: The persistent efforts of Sus residents have finally yielded results, with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) commencing long-awaited repair work on the severely damaged Yashwin Society Road on Wednesday. The move comes days after locals organised an online protest to highlight the civic body’s delay in addressing the issue.
On November 21, residents had conducted a 15-minute coordinated digital protest, urging PMC to take immediate action on the deteriorated road stretch between Vibgyor School and Neelanchal Society. The uneven surface, potholes and heavy dust pollution had been causing daily hardships for commuters, schoolchildren, senior citizens and two-wheeler riders.
Despite the end of monsoon over two months ago, the road had remained unrepaired, leading to rising health concerns among residents, including dust allergies, respiratory discomfort and back pain due to the uneven terrain. The situation worsened with frequent movement of heavy vehicles.
With repeated complaints receiving no meaningful response, residents mobilised digitally, sending hundreds of WhatsApp messages simultaneously from 11:00 AM to 11:15 AM to multiple PMC officials — from the Junior Engineer to the Chief Engineer — demanding uniform resurfacing of the entire stretch.
Residents emphasised that their protest was a peaceful appeal for basic civic amenities. They noted that despite paying taxes on time, essential infrastructure needs continued to be neglected.
Following the collective pressure, PMC began repair work on November 27. Residents expressed relief and extended gratitude to PMC and Pune Pulse for highlighting the issue and ensuring timely resolution.
The development reinforces how citizen-led digital campaigns are emerging as effective tools in demanding accountability and accelerating long-pending civic interventions.
