Pune: Swargate ST Bus Depot To Undergo Renovation
Swargate bus depot, known for its dilapidated conditions and poor facilities, is set to undergo a major redevelopment. The Pune division of the State Transport (ST) administration has proposed a plan to revamp the station. This proposal has been submitted to the state government.
Currently, the Swargate station operates 137 buses daily and handles between 20,000 and 22,000 passengers. The daily revenue ranges from ₹30 to ₹32 lakh, including discounts. Located in a central area of Pune and a key transportation hub, Swargate sees heavy passenger traffic, including inter-state travel. The station is especially crowded during festivals and holidays.
Despite its importance, Swargate has faced significant issues with its infrastructure. Passengers have long complained about the poor state of facilities, including unsafe walls and rotting ceilings. In response, the ST administration is now planning a significant upgrade to the station.
The recent development of the Baramati bus station, which now resembles an airport in its modernity, has highlighted the need for similar improvements at Swargate. Passengers are urging the government to enhance Swargate station to match the standards set in Baramati.
Pramod Nehul, the divisional controller of ST for Pune, confirmed that a proposal for the Swargate station upgrade was sent to the state government in April. They are now waiting for approval. This upgrade aims to provide better facilities and improved service for the thousands of daily commuters.
