Pune: Taxpayers’ Money Down the Drain: PMC’s Shameful Neglect of Pedestrian Footpath in Mohammadwadi

Pune, December 18, 2025: The footpath opposite Nyati Estate in Mohammadwadi is a glaring example of Pune Municipal Corporation’s complete apathy towards basic civic responsibilities. The pedestrian walkway is in a pathetic, dangerous and unhygienic state, littered with broken slabs, craters, garbage and filth, making it unfit for human use.

The footpath is full of animal poop making it unhealthy and difficult to walk.

Pedestrians, including senior citizens, children and women, are forced to abandon the footpath and walk on the main road, risking accidents every single day. This is not inconvenience — it is outright negligence. A footpath meant to ensure pedestrian safety has been allowed to rot into a public hazard.

Despite repeated complaints and visible deterioration, PMC officials have failed miserably to repair the footpath or maintain even minimum cleanliness standards. This raises a serious question: where exactly is citizens’ tax money going, if not towards maintaining essential public infrastructure?

Residents are furious and rightly so. How long will PMC continue to ignore the safety of citizens? Is this negligence waiting for a tragedy before action is taken? The people of Mohammadwadi deserve answers — and immediate action, not excuses.
