Pune: In a shocking display of violence, a gang armed with koytas stormed a housing society in the Dattanagar area of Katraj following a dispute over a tea bill. The incident, which took place on Monday, has sparked concerns over the growing menace of koyta gangs in the city.

According to police officials, the accused, Aditya Ranjane, operates a tea stall at Trimurti Chowk near Bharati Vidyapeeth. Around 6 a.m., an argument over payment for tea escalated into a violent confrontation. Dayaram Sutar, a resident of Dattanagar, intervened to defuse the situation, following which the parties involved dispersed.

However, in a fit of rage, Ranjane and his associates later barged into Sutar’s society, armed with koytas, and reached his residence. They inquired about his whereabouts but left upon learning that he was not at home.

Senior Police Inspector Sharad Zine of Ambegaon Police Station confirmed to the Free Press Journal that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). “We have deployed a team to track down the accused, and they will be arrested soon,” he stated.

Despite Pune Police’s crackdown on koyta gangs, such violent incidents continue to occur, raising concerns over law and order in the city.
