A group of four individuals, one of whom was a minor, pursued a tech professional’s vehicle, seized his phone, and physically assaulted him when he declined their request to purchase alcohol for them at a store in Wadgaon Sheri around 5:45 pm on Sunday. Subsequently, the Chandannagar police arrested three of the culprits, aged between 18 and 21, and detained the underage accomplice on charges of theft, assault, and other offenses.

In the wake of the tragic Porsche Taycan car accident on May 19 that resulted in the loss of two tech professionals’ lives, the authorities have implemented stricter regulations concerning the sale of alcohol to individuals under 25 years old.

Assistant Inspector of Chandannagar police stated, Bala Salve (21), Abhijit Sampate (18), and Nikhil Darekar (21) from Wadgaon Sheri have been taken into custody alongwith their minor accomplice, aged 17 years and 11 months. Their parents are employed as casual laborers.

The 29-year-old software engineer, who resides in Vimannagar, went to the Wadgaon Sheri liquor shop to purchase liquor. At that moment, the group of four individuals approached him and handed him an ATM card while requesting him to buy alcohol for them.

“The techie rejected their request upon realizing that the group was not of legal age to buy liquor and departed from the shop,” he mentioned.

Mane mentioned, “Not taking this kindly, the group chased the techie’s car on their two-wheelers. One of them damaged the car’s window by throwing a stone at it. They then intercepted the car, dragged the techie out of the driver’s seat, and kicked and punched him. One of them snatched the victim’s cell phone and drove away with his car.”

The incident occurred about 200 meters from the police chowkey. When we arrived at the scene, we found two youngsters there. Later in the night, we apprehended two others from Kharadi. The CCTV footage assisted us in tracing the car’s movement towards Kharadi,” stated Police.
