Pune: Timely Intervention Saves Widow and Daughter from Eviction in Vadgaon Maval
Pune, June 23, 2025: A widow and her minor daughter were spared from becoming homeless in Vadgaon Maval, thanks to swift action taken by Defence Officer Pravin Neharkar, following directions from the Maharashtra State Women’s Commission.
The State Women’s Commission had referred the sensitive case to Neharkar on Friday, June 13. The matter involved a destitute woman whose husband passed away in 2023, leaving her and her young daughter without financial or familial support. An earlier order issued by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Maval-Mulshi directed the woman and her daughter to vacate their current residence.
Upon receiving the case documents from the District Women and Child Development Office, Neharkar immediately acted by preparing a Domestic Incident Report (DIR) and filing it in the Vadgaon Maval court on Tuesday, June 17. Despite the absence of legal representation, he personally presented the case in court, effectively arguing for relief.
Considering the urgency and sensitivity of the situation, the court issued an interim stay order the same evening by 6 PM, allowing the woman and her daughter to remain in their home.
Further supporting the family, Neharkar arranged for a lawyer the following day through the District Legal Services Authority to assist with the upcoming legal proceedings. The court also set a date for an expedited hearing to ensure that justice is delivered without delay.
In a press statement, Officer Neharkar emphasized the importance of timely support in such cases and reaffirmed his commitment to assisting vulnerable citizens in distress.
