Pune: In a dramatic turn of events, a private charter flight carrying Rishiraj Sawant, son of former Maharashtra minister Tanaji Sawant, was forced to return to Pune just hours after takeoff to Bangkok. The chaos unfolded after an anonymous call led the police to register a kidnapping case, sparking political speculation and high-stakes action.
A Mysterious Disappearance & High-Flying Escape
On Monday evening, Rishiraj Sawant was seen leaving Pune’s Lohegaon Airport in a Swift car before boarding a chartered flight to Bangkok with two companions. However, after receiving a call suggesting a possible abduction, Pune Police swiftly launched an investigation.
Flight Diverted, ₹78 Lakh Trip Cancelled
The ₹78 lakh private jet, which had already reached Andaman and Nicobar Islands, was diverted to Chennai after Pune authorities intervened through Air Traffic Control (ATC). Following a hurried press conference, Rishiraj and his friends were brought back to Pune, their international getaway cut short.
What Tanaji Sawant Said
Addressing the media, Tanaji Sawant denied any family dispute, stating:
“We spoke at night, and Rishiraj even performed Rudrabhishek in the morning. He had recently traveled to Dubai, so I was surprised when he suddenly left for Bangkok. We talk often, but I didn’t understand why he went without informing me. Maybe he was worried I’d be upset. We’ll know once he explains.”
Police Confirm No Kidnapping
According to Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Rishiraj and his friends had indeed booked the charter voluntarily, and the kidnapping claim turned out to be false. However, the high-voltage political drama surrounding the incident has sparked widespread discussion.
