Pune: The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) is set to commence construction on a double-decker flyover along Paud Road as part of the Vanaz to Chandni Chowk metro expansion project. The flyover will be built between Kachara Depot and Lohia IT Park to ease traffic congestion in the area.

MahaMetro has submitted the flyover’s design plan to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), aiming to address chronic traffic bottlenecks along Paud Road, a crucial arterial route connecting to the Pune-Mumbai Highway. The stretch between Lohia IT Park and Kachara Depot, spanning approximately 1.5 km, is particularly prone to heavy congestion due to multiple traffic signals and high population density.

Initially, PMC had planned a single-level flyover to mitigate traffic issues. However, with the ongoing metro expansion, MahaMetro has proposed a double-decker flyover, similar to the one at Nal Stop, to accommodate both metro operations and vehicular traffic efficiently.

The flyover, to be constructed near Kothrud Depot, is estimated to cost ₹85 crore. Once completed, it is expected to significantly improve traffic movement in the area and provide much-needed relief to commuters on Paud Road.
