Pune Weather Update: Unseasonal Rain and Hailstorm Likely in Maharashtra
Maharashtra is bracing for unseasonal weather as several parts of the state are expected to witness rain and hailstorms over the next two to three days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for multiple districts, including Pune, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Jalgaon, and Satara, warning of thunderstorms and possible hailstorms.
Cloudy weather has prevailed across the state for the past three days, with Konkan, Marathwada, and Central Maharashtra expected to receive heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms. The IMD has also predicted hailstorms in several districts.
According to Dr. S.D. Sanap, a scientist at the Pune Weather Department, the reason behind the persistent cloudy conditions is a cyclonic circulation over Central Maharashtra. This weather system has led to moisture-laden winds moving east to west in the lower atmosphere, while the upper atmosphere winds are moving in the opposite direction. These conditions are conducive to thunderstorms and hailstorms.

Following this spell of unseasonal rain, temperatures across Maharashtra, including Pune, are expected to rise in April, May, and June, with forecasts indicating above-average summer temperatures. The IMD has clarified that this rainfall is pre-monsoon activity, and normal monsoon patterns will follow later.
Residents are advised to stay updated with weather alerts and take necessary precautions.
