Pune Tourism Policy Update: Entry Fees and Safety Measures Coming Soon at Tourist Spots
District Collector announces major revamp to curb accidents and ensure responsible tourism
Pune: Visitors heading to popular tourist destinations in Pune district will soon have to pay an entry fee, as the district administration gears up to implement a new tourism policy focused on safety and regulation. District Collector Jitendra Dudi announced the move on Tuesday, stating that the policy is being designed to improve management and reduce the risk of accidents at overcrowded and unsafe sites.
The district is home to several well-known monsoon destinations, which witness a surge in tourists during the rainy season. However, frequent incidents of unruly behavior, disregard for safety norms, and even fatal accidents have prompted authorities to rethink how these sites are managed. The tragic incident at Kundamala, along with past mishaps, has played a key role in shaping this upcoming policy.
As reported by Sakal, collector Dudi said, “In the next 15 days, a comprehensive tourism policy will be introduced. It will include charging an entry fee at tourist sites, along with strict safety protocols. The policy will define the fee structure, the security systems to be put in place, and the overall management plan.”
Implementation of the policy will be carried out through a joint committee involving the Forest Department and local Gram Panchayats. This committee will oversee the installation of barricades, creation of safe standing zones for tourists, and enforce limits on the number of visitors allowed at a given time.
Referring to his earlier tenure in Satara, Dudi mentioned that similar initiatives were successful and well-received by tourists. “We’re trying to replicate that success here,” he added.
In Kundamala, a 7.5-metre wide bridge will soon be constructed, with 8-foot-wide footpaths on both sides. Additionally, a special viewing gallery will be developed at the site, with funding being arranged for the same. Construction is expected to begin immediately after the monsoon season.
The administration hopes that these steps will create a safer and more organized tourism experience for all.
