Pune Traffic Alert: 9-Day Closure At Key Wanwadi Junctions For Grand Challenge 2026 Works; Alternative Routes Announced
Pune, 24 November 2025: Major traffic changes have been announced for Pune residents as road excavation and upgradation work has begun in the Wanwadi area under the Pune Grand Challenge 2026 project. Due to these works, traffic from Solapur Bazaar Chowk to Golibar Chowk will remain completely closed from 21 to 30 November, affecting regular commuters, heavy vehicles, as well as PMPML buses.
According to the Wanwadi Traffic Division, these repairs—carried out as part of Pune Grand Challenge 2026 (Package 1 to 4)—meet international standards to ensure long-term road quality. To avoid severe congestion and minimise inconvenience, strict traffic restrictions have been put in place along with carefully planned diversions.
Heavy Vehicles & Buses Restricted
Heavy vehicles, including trucks and tempos, as well as passenger buses, will not be allowed to use the Solapur Bazaar Chowk–Golibar Maidan route during this period. The restriction aims to maintain safety and ensure that the ongoing work progresses without disruption.
PMPML Buses to Follow New Route
PMPML buses travelling towards Pune Railway Station or Swargate via Solapur Road will no longer proceed directly.
Instead, they will now detour via:
Pul Gate → Bhairoba Nala Chowk → Wanwadi Bazaar Police Chowky → Lullanagar Chowk → Gangadham Chowk
Officials expect this diversion to provide smoother transit for bus commuters.
Alternative Routes for Private Vehicles
Private vehicles have also been given a diversion plan. Commuters travelling via Solapur Road must turn left from Bhairoba Nala Chowk and then proceed through Lullanagar to reach their desired destination.
Authorities emphasised that these alternative routes will help reduce congestion and ease traffic movement while the road improvement work continues at full pace.
