Pune Traffic Jam Forces Nitin Gadkari to Cancel Inspection of Proposed Underground Road
Pune, June 23, 2025: Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari experienced first-hand the traffic woes of Pune residents on Saturday when he got stuck in a traffic jam during his scheduled site visit.
Gadkari had planned to inspect the proposed underground road project from Shaniwar Wada to Swargate—an initiative aimed at tackling the city’s rising congestion. While he reached Shaniwar Wada on time, his convoy got caught in heavy morning traffic en route to the next stop.
Unable to proceed further, the minister was forced to cancel the on-ground inspection. Instead, he conducted a review meeting from inside his car, discussing project updates with officials and taking stock of the situation.
The incident highlighted the very problem the proposed project aims to resolve—Pune’s worsening traffic chaos.
