In a significant move to address parking issues on Karve Road, the Pune Traffic Police have decided to remove several no parking zones between Khandoji Baba Chowk and Karve Statue, including flyovers, bridges, and signals.

Vijaykumar Magar, DCP Traffic Pune, explained that due to the metro work in 2018, no parking zones were established along this stretch, causing inconvenience for commuters and negatively impacting businesses in the area. However, as of June 20, 2023, parking spots have been restored at eight major locations on Karve Road to ensure smoother traffic flow and eliminate hindrances for businesses.

According to the information shared by the Traffic DCP, the restored parking zones will be as follows:

From Rasashala Chowk to Swatantrya Chowk:

10-meter parking for four-wheelers in front of Bank of Maharashtra.
15-meter parking for four-wheelers from Bhagyashri Jewellers to Chaitanya Nagari Society.
20-meter parking for four-wheelers from Union Bank to Swapna Nagari Society.
15-meter parking for two-wheelers from Siddheshwar Medical to Kohinoor Wines, excluding the society gate.
15-meter parking for two-wheelers from Ganesh Chamber, Reyban Showroom to Amar Hardware.

From Swatantrya Chowk to Rasashala Chowk:

5-meter parking for two-wheelers from Dhanashri Glass Shop next to Kalyan Jewellers to Go-Colours Shop.
50-meter parking for two-wheelers from Open House, Sarthi Hotel next to Jagannath Tarte Marg to Prime Furniture Showroom.
20-meter parking for two-wheelers from Bhode Colony Lane to Kachre Path.

Fatechand Ranka, Managing Director of Ranka Jewellers Pune, expressed that the restoration of parking spaces on Karve Road would greatly benefit business owners, enabling customers to park their vehicles conveniently and access shops without any hassle. However, Ranka suggested that authorities should engage with business associations to discuss future decisions on no parking zones or any changes that may affect shops and businesses in the city.

Kunal Khemnar, Additional Municipal Commissioner (Estate) of PMC, assured that the PMC would soon remove the no parking boards and install parking boards at the designated spaces identified by the traffic police.

Hemant Sambhus, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Party Leader in Pune, highlighted the impact of Smart City and Metro works on local businesses, stating that numerous shops had suffered during the construction phase. In a meeting with Guardian Minister Chandrakant Patil, it was decided to remove all no parking zones on the road and provide ample parking space from Khandoji Baba Chowk to Karve Statue, a decision that will be implemented soon.

The introduction of parking spaces on Karve Road marks a positive development in addressing parking challenges and promoting a more convenient environment for commuters and businesses alike.
