Pune Traffic Police’s Encroachment Removal Drive: 156 Notices, 20+ Cases Filed
The Pune City Traffic Police have launched a crackdown on roadside encroachments, serving notices to 156 establishments, including roadside eateries, garages, florists, malls, and multiplexes, over the last three weeks. These establishments have been asked to remove structures that are encroaching on roads and blocking vehicular movement.
According to Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil, Pune City Police, “We have asked these establishments to remove their encroachments from the carriageway and not block vehicular movement. If they continue to do so, we will file cases against them under section 285 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.” The Pune City Traffic Police have already registered a complaint against one violating establishment and have warned others to comply or face action.
The move comes after observations that garages, eateries, and florists have been operating on footpaths or nearby, causing traffic jams during peak hours. Patil explained, “Vehicles entering or leaving these facilities often cause traffic jams. We have asked larger establishments to employ wardens to avert traffic jams in front of their facilities.”
The crackdown will eventually cover smaller roads in the city, with the Pune City Traffic Police focusing on ensuring that public routes are not encroached upon, causing traffic jams and accidents. Patil emphasized, “We will not tolerate encroachments that cause traffic jams and accidents. We will take strict action against those who fail to comply.”
