A tragic incident occurred at Torna Fort on Saturday night (Feb 7) when a trekker suffered a heart attack and died. The deceased has been identified as Ranjit Mohandas Shinde (44), originally from Songav, Satara, and residing in Warje, Pune.  

Shinde had gone trekking with Fazilat Khan. While climbing the fort, he complained of chest pain and collapsed. Around 10:30 PM, Khan called emergency services (112) for help.  

The Velhe police contacted the disaster management team, which included Tanaji Bhosale, Ganesh Sapkal, Sanjay Chorge, Sandeep Solaskar, Dilip Talekar, Anil Renuse, and members of SL Adventure. Constables Rohit Marbhal and Yuvraj Somvanshi from Velhe police station also reached the spot.  

Shinde’s body was carefully brought down from the fort with assistance from Lahu Ughade, Tushar Dighe, Kaustubh Dighe, Prashant Ingulkar, Rishikesh Ingulkar, and Sachin Shelar. The team brought the body to the parking area at 5 am.

An ambulance (108) was already waiting. Doctors Rahul Borse, Chandrakant Bhoite, and Dnyaneshwar Hiras examined Shinde and declared him dead.  

Fazilat Khan reported the incident to Velhe police station at 8 AM on Sunday (Feb 8). Assistant Police Inspector Nitin Khamgal is leading the investigation, with Constable Dnyaneshwar Dhivar handling further inquiries.  

Shinde was a dairy business owner in Warje, Pune. His sudden death has left the local community in shock.
