Pune: Underground Metro to Launch in September, To Commence Operations By Ganesh ChaturthiÂ

Pune Airport Feeder Buses Set For Improved Service With New Parking Spot At Ramwadi Metro StationÂ
Pune’s underground metro line from Shivajinagar Civil Court to Swargate is anticipated to commence operations by Ganesh Chaturthi this year. This development will mark the full operational status of all Maha Metro stations. Consequently, Pune residents will be able to easily visit popular locations such as the Dagdusheth Ganpati temple, shop along Laxmi Road, and attend performances at Balgandharva Rangmandir using the metro. During the Ganesh festival, both locals and tourists will benefit from metro services extending between Vanaz to Ramwadi and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation to Swargate.
With Ganesh Chaturthi falling on September 7, this date is likely to see the opening of the country’s second metro line traversing beneath the river between Shivajinagar, Civil Court, and Swargate. This line, constructed 100 feet underground, has generated significant interest among Pune’s citizens. Rapid progress is being made on the Swargate metro station. Once operational, the metro lines from Vanaz to Ramwadi and Pimpri-Chinchwad to Swargate will provide frequent services, enhancing convenience for passengers.
Devotees will find it easier to visit local temples, including Kasba Ganpati, Dagdusheth Ganpati, Jogeshwari Temple, and Mahalakshmi Temple at Swargate. Additionally, shopping on Laxmi Road, attending performances at Balgandharva Rangmandir, or watching movies at Mangala Theatre will become more accessible without the hassle of finding parking spaces for two-wheelers.
Enhanced Safety with CCTV Surveillance
Public transport often poses safety challenges for women, including harassment on buses or local trains. However, the Pune Metro aims to address these issues with extensive CCTV surveillance across stations and coaches. Any inappropriate behavior will be monitored by staff in the central control room, who will promptly notify the police. This measure ensures a safer travel environment for women and girls, as offenders will be quickly identified, apprehended, and taken into custody.
Bicycle-Friendly Metro
The fully operational metro lines from Vanaz to Ramwadi and Pimpri-Chinchwad to Swargate will also accommodate bicycle owners. This initiative is expected to benefit students, employees, and IT professionals. Hemant Sonwane, Executive Director of Maha Metro, confirmed that the Civil Court to Swargate underground metro route is slated to be operational by September, coinciding with Ganesh Chaturthi, with ongoing work at the metro stations progressing swiftly.
